THE ARCHOSAUR ASYLUM VOL.22: A Few New Things

Hey folks,
As always, I hope this blog entry finds you well. I thought it was about time that I shared the latest with you. Today we will discuss the new offerings, such as the Styracosaurus diorama that has already dropped, .STLs for sale, and a new partnership with Dinosauria Creatures.

As mentioned above, the new Styracosaurus combatants diorama kits are ready in 1:35 and 1:20 scales. What's left of the first five are considered "Pre-Production," are numbered, and come with a certificate of authenticity. The diorama, called "Bighorn Bash," depicts two Styracosauruses in the throes of combat set in the middle of a forest stream. The scene contains splashing water, rocks, ferns, a few angiosperms, and a horny lizard that made his debut in the "Between Meals" juvenile T. rex model kit back in 2022. However, this time he is a little worse for wear.

"Bighorn Bash" diorama in 1:35 and 1:20 scales is now available... see below.

All of the Ancient Era Artistry models are printed in super high resolution with a 0.03mm layer height, which means that all of the tiny details you see in the digital image appear in the final model. Even the 1:35 kits sport all of the detail.

In other model kit news, "Twinning Down Under" (diving juvenile T. rexes) and "Mad Momma" (adult Sauroposeidon) are in the "Cut & Key" phase (dividing the digital model and creating keys for printing), so I am expecting them to be ready to ship by the end of June or early July. "Twinning Down Under," in particular, is quite an undertaking with all of that seaweed and all of the Sarcopterygii.

Other models in the works right now include a Carcharodontosaurus and a Carnotaurus. Taking a little inspiration from Andy Fraser of Dragons of Wales, I am working on a slightly different look for the face of the Carcharodontosaurus. I also may be returning to a diorama I have in progress which depicts a couple of Acrocanthosauruses feeding on a dead baby Sauroposeidon. You might recall seeing this bepofre if you've been following for a while. The images below are of just an early W.I.P. (work in progress), but you get the idea. I am considering removing the speculative wattle from the Sauroposeidon for this model, but I have not decided yet. As always, I welcome your opinion on this or any other upcoming kits. Which of the projects in the works would you like to see come out first? Anything else you'd like to see me working on? I'd love to hear from you: Matt@think-loudly.com

"Smorgasbord" W.I.P.
With a bit of trepidation, I have decided to start selling the digital work in the form of .STLs for 3D printing enthusiasts and Makers. This kind of thing has always worried me a bit; I hate the idea of someone stealing my artwork or altering it slightly and calling it their own (the digital files are easily manipulated with the right software), but I enjoy the thought of people being able to download the work and print it at home.
There is something nice about being able to manifest something cool from the confines of your personal space. Also, I thought it might help spread the brand out a bit.

I am calling the collection of digital files "Prehistoric Printables," so if you are interested, filter your search on the Model Shop page to only show that collection. There are seven models available for download now, and I will be adding more over time.

The last thing I wanted to mention is an agreement with Dinosauria Creatures. The folks over there are very professional, and they run a tight ship. They are authorized resellers of Ancient Era Artistry products. I supply the digital model, and they do all of the scaling and printing. With some models, you might find they offer them in sizes that I do not.

I just completed a collaborative exclusive product for Dinosauria Creatures with Nova Studios. Based on the discovery of a fossilized skeletal egg-encased Oviraptor fetus, Nova Studios and I created two versions. Nova created the skeletal fetus within the egg, and I created the fleshed-out version using Nova's skeleton as a guide. Take a look below. That was a fun project. It will only be available from Dinosauria Creatures.

Apart from exclusive offerings, Dinosauria Creatures is in Spain, so some international buyers might find it cheaper with shipping to order from them. Dinosauria Creatures also works directly with Javier Peces of Dinocommissions (one of the best model painters out there), so you can easily have your model painted prior to delivery. Javier has painted a few things for me, and I am always very impressed with the results.

Oviraptor Fetus: These will be available as a set or individually in 1:1 scale exclusively from Dinosauria Creatures.

Here's a W.I.P. of the paintwork by Javier Peces of Dinocomisions.
